Women in Tech and Social Entrepreneurship Lunch

This session on Women in Tech and Social Entrepreneurship will shed light on the steps Heather Payne, founder of Ladies Learning Code, took leading to her success in the male-dominated information technology world.

Heather Payne, Founder, Ladies Learning Code – Heather is the founder of Ladies Learning Code (WWW.LADIESLEARNINGCODE.COM), a Toronto-based non-profit start-up that runs wildly popular workshops for women (and men) who want to learn computer programming and other technical skills in a social and collaborative way. Recently, Heather founded HackerYou (WWW.HACKERYOU.COM) as a way to bring to her city more learning experiences focusing on technology, start-ups and entrepreneurship. She’s also working on a project for the Mozilla Foundation (WWW.MOZILLA.ORG), concentrated on building a community of people and organizations in Toronto who care about raising youth as creators – not just consumers – of technology and the web. Heather was an early investor in ShopLocket (WWW.SHOPLOCKET.COM), and in a former life, she helped start-ups like Pinpoint Social (WWW.PINPOINTSOCIAL.COM) and Shopcaster (WWW.SHOPCASTER.COM) to acquire their first users.
