Today TechConnect, in partnership with SXSW Eco (South by Southwest) and the Clean Technology and Sustainable Industries Organization (CTSI), officially honored CarbonCure Technologies, Inc. (WWW.CARBONCURE.COM) with its coveted 2012 Innovation to Inspiration award (i2i award). Overall, twenty companies were recognized from a competitive pool of more than 150 applicants in the energy, water and environmental technology sectors.

“It’s great to be here in Austin, Texas with such an inspiring crop of cleantech entrepreneurs and investors. This is a special time for our company. We’re seeing a big commercial future for mineral carbonation solutions in concrete products”, said Robert Niven, Founder & CEO of CarbonCure Technologies, Inc. Many of the leading VC investors in the energy, water and environmental technology sectors from California’s Silicon Valley and Boston’s Route 128 are participating in the conference.

According to Matthew Laudon, CEO of TechConnect, the i2i SXSW Eco award concentrates on “seeking out unique innovations that have the largest potential positive impact on our planet and society.” The contest seeks to go “beyond the business pitch model” and assess the real-world commercial scaling potential of an individual technology. SXSW Eco is a three-day conference focused on multi-disciplinary problem solving for challenges facing the economy, the environment and civil society generally. In addition to CarbonCure’s presentation on CO2-sequestered concrete products, green building content includes programs on the Living Building Challenge and Architecture 2030 Challenge, both aimed at promoting carbon-neutral and zero energy design.

About CarbonCure Technologies Inc.
CarbonCure Technologies, Inc. is a materials science innovator deploying CO2-sequestration solutions to concrete products manufacturers. Concrete is the second most widely used material globally and is responsible for ~5% of total greenhouse gas emissions. The Company’s proprietary technology is an intuitive, elegant method of repurposing waste carbon dioxide—and is used to strengthen concrete, accelerate curing (drying), and make concrete less carbon-intensive overall. End concrete products range from sustainable blocks to pavers and segmented retaining walls. Inspired by biomimicry and ‘systems design’ engineering, CarbonCure’s product delivers captured CO2 into a semi-porous concrete matrix, marrying Ca+ ions with CO2, and creating rock in the form of calcium carbonates (limestone).

Halifax, Nova Scotia-based CarbonCure Technologies, Inc. is commercializing its construction products technology in fall 2012, with construction products market leaders in California (Basalite Concrete Products, LLC), Ontario (Atlas Concrete Products) and Nova Scotia (Shaw Group). These manufacturers offer LEED architects attractive and affordable design options with “simply better concrete” for green building masonry projects.
